Subatomic Sound System

NYC’s Subatomic Sound System are highly regarded for their unique adaptation of 1970’s Jamaican sound system culture, dub reggae studio techniques and digital technology.

Lee “Scratch” Perry

Producer, songwriter, businessman, singer and innovator Lee “Scratch” Perry is one of the central figures in the history and evolution of reggae and dub music.

The Upsetter: A conversation and live performance with Lee Scratch Perry

The inimitable Lee Scratch Perry will be sharing thoughts and perspectives on technology and the creative process, followed by a live performance with his band, Subatomic Sound System.

Perry’s early adaption and creative use of drum machines, delays and phase shifters gave his mixes a unique sound that had a profound influence on dub and, later, dancehall. Today, at the age of 80 he is still pushing the boundaries of interaction between machines and live instruments through his work with Subatomic Sound System.

Perry’s band leader Emch will join the conversation to discuss the use of technology as the cornerstone in bringing Perry’s vision to the stage – as part of Scratch’s eternal quest to innovate live and in the studio.
