SS029 Lee Scratch Perry & Subatomic Sound System "Black Ark Vampires" vinyl 7" 45

UPDATE New mixes also available 3/18/2016 on Black Ark Vampires digital EP.

Lee “Scratch” Perry & Subatomic Sound System “Black Ark Vampires” limited edition vinyl 45 debuted Nov. 4. 2014 on Juno Records, #1 in dub, #1 in reggae, and broke the top #100 in all music before selling out on the site (more copies on the way).  It premiered for Halloween on Brooklyn based Jamaican culture site Large Up  and received an overwhelming response.  Buy it directly from Crosstalk Distribution (US), Juno Records (UK) (who ship worldwide), Jetset (Japan) and many other fine record stores around the globe.

On “Black Ark Vampires”, Lee “Scratch” Perry & Subatomic Sound System have crafted a throbbing sound-man tune propelled by subsonic bass, bubbling skanks, and pulsing beats that balance the murky and mystical vibes of Perry’s classic Jamaican dub reggae recordings with the flammable energy and subsonic vibrations of current electronic bass music, fine tuning a recipe that they have slow cooked throughout their last four years of U.S. tours spreading authentic dub to a new generation in places like Coachella, Dub Champions Festival, and Red Bull Music Academy.

Skarob “Police, Preachers, & Politicians” 21st Century Dread & Bass

Skarob Police, Preachers, & Politicians

Skarob “Police, Preachers, & Politicians” full length album out now! Cop it now on BEATPORT, JUNO, ITUNES, BOOMKAT, and more. Subatomic Sound only puts out music on our label that we love by people we love. This is no exception.  Get it. Love it. Take a trip with it.

THE ARTISTS: Skarob is a collision of bass music and dub reggae from the duo of veteran Brooklyn rasta Doctah X and Eastern European expatriate Rekloos transplanted to the unlikely heartland of America. The project features a variety of collaborators and remixers including Dr. Israel, Subatomic Sound System, Abba Blade, and more, stacked with numerous selections packing dancefloor firepower for electronic DJs and reggae selectors as well as others for certified headphone head bobbing, from dancehall bangers to dubstep smashers to deep, rootical dub grooves to sunny, psychedelic, atmospheric journeys. Recorded by Skarob. Mixed and arranged by Rekloos in Columbus, Ohio. Mastered by Emch at Subatomic Sound in New York City. Both members of Skarob write and produce, but unlike many of today’s electronic production duos, Doctah X also performs vocals and guitar, drawing on his decades past history growing up in Kentucky as a blues guitarist, touring and recording with Cream’s Ginger Baker, playing with legends John Lee Hooker and Albert King, as well as work with The Last Poets’ Umar Bin Hussein.

Whether you consider him genius or madman, 76 yr old Grammy winning, dub reggae inventor is one of the most dynamic characters in music history. Considered by many as the creator of both reggae and dub, he was a mentor to Bob Marley, co-writing and recording some of his greatest work. Check his original recordings of Bob Marley’s “Sun is Shining” or “Kaya” as an example. Constantly pushing boundaries, he has worked with the Beastie Boys, recently recorded an album with rave pioneers, The Orb, and toured the US backed by electronic based dubstep crew Subatomic Sound System, working in samples of his classic Black Ark studio recordings over bass heavy dubstep influenced beats.
