Lee Scratch Perry Super Ape Dub Champions Festival
Final day of Kickstarter! Ends Thursday evening! To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Lee “Scratch” Perry’s “Super Ape” album, one of the crowning achievements of dub and reggae produced at his Black Ark studio in Jamaica, Scratch will be performing the album for the first time ever live at Dub Champions Festival events across the USA this September and October. Check out the Kickstarter here! Bring this historic album to life and contribute towards:

  1. A giant inflatable gorilla to emulate the album art
  2. Including our full backing vocal and horn section throughout the tour [band members are currently based in NYC and LA]
  3. Animations of the album cover artwork

Please watch the video for more information on the project and history of Lee Perry. This Kickstarter is put on by Emch, founder of Dub Champions Festival and band leader of Subatomic Sound System, with the consent of Lee Perry. We have been supporting Scratch in the USA for the past 5 years. Subatomic Sound presents the 3rd annual Dub Champions Festival Europe, a journey into the international musical phenomenon called “dub.” Characterized by heavy bass, drums, and the copious use of effects, producers become the artists and the mixing board becomes an instrument with this Jamaican art form.  The festival features both performances & educational workshops to exhibit how the music is created and has evolved from its 1970s, reggae roots to become a cornerstone of electronic bass music. Dub has also inspired countless genres from rap to rock to punk to dance music, and in the process has redefined the role of producer as artist. Advance ticket links for all events on the festival site and Facebook events for all 9 shows and workshops.

Skarob “Police, Preachers, & Politicians” 21st Century Dread & Bass

Skarob Police, Preachers, & Politicians

Skarob “Police, Preachers, & Politicians” full length album out now! Cop it now on BEATPORT, JUNO, ITUNES, BOOMKAT, and more. Subatomic Sound only puts out music on our label that we love by people we love. This is no exception.  Get it. Love it. Take a trip with it.

THE ARTISTS: Skarob is a collision of bass music and dub reggae from the duo of veteran Brooklyn rasta Doctah X and Eastern European expatriate Rekloos transplanted to the unlikely heartland of America. The project features a variety of collaborators and remixers including Dr. Israel, Subatomic Sound System, Abba Blade, and more, stacked with numerous selections packing dancefloor firepower for electronic DJs and reggae selectors as well as others for certified headphone head bobbing, from dancehall bangers to dubstep smashers to deep, rootical dub grooves to sunny, psychedelic, atmospheric journeys. Recorded by Skarob. Mixed and arranged by Rekloos in Columbus, Ohio. Mastered by Emch at Subatomic Sound in New York City. Both members of Skarob write and produce, but unlike many of today’s electronic production duos, Doctah X also performs vocals and guitar, drawing on his decades past history growing up in Kentucky as a blues guitarist, touring and recording with Cream’s Ginger Baker, playing with legends John Lee Hooker and Albert King, as well as work with The Last Poets’ Umar Bin Hussein.
